The ROLL project was a musical experiment which I started in 1994 when I met Erik.

I was immediatly taken by the sound of his voice and his style of speech.
I suggested an experiment and started recording some of his poems.

When he read them from the book, there was a certain metrum in his reading. I matched a clicktrack to his cadenza and then recorded the poetry.

Initially I recorded some tracks on a tabletop in his kitchen on a 4 track cassetterecorder.

Those recordings turned out so powerful that they resulted in this project, joining poetry and music in a new way.

After a long period of toying with the idea we finally got around to make a cd in 2003. Recordings were made at my then home in the Belgian country side, with very limited equipment.
